CrossFit Shift Athlete of the Month Questionnaire Name: Nolan Pangburn

Age: 40

Where did you grow up? I was born and raised in Lansing. I’ve lived in Waverly/Delta Township area my entire life.

When did you become a member at CrossFit Shift ? December 22, 2015. I remember that date because the 12 days of Christmas was my 3rd class!

What do you do when you are not at CrossFit Shift? (occupation, hobbies, etc.) I’m a factory rat at GM’s Delta Township plant. I love playing sports. Basketball, softball and tennis being my favorites. I’ve always coached all 4 of my kids sports teams, but this is the first year in a long time I won’t be. They’ve outgrown me. Most of my free time is spent with my kids, or driving them to pratices, games, concerts, school activities, etc.

How did you find out about CrossFit? Paul Gamez got me into it. He’d been doing it for a few years. It was always something I wanted to try, but I never thought I had time for it. Finally, while I had a few weeks off for Christmas, I decided to give it a try. Now I MAKE time for it.

When did you realize CrossFit is right for you? After my first class. I wanted to die. I was instantly hooked. And have been coming every day since.

What is your favorite WOd/movement? Cleans, Pushups and running

What is your least favorite Wod/movement? I hate rowing, and double unders frustrate the hell out of me!!!

What would your perfect WOD look like? It would have running, pushups, pullups and maybe some situps and box jumps.

What is one thing you have done at CrossFit Shift that you never thought you would do? Ring Muscle Up. I would try and try and try. Then Kris and Joe gave me a few tips, and Bam, I knocked out 4 in a row. I still haven’t been able to do more than 3 in a row since. I don’t know how I even do them.

What motivates you during a CrossFit WOD? I try to push myself to my limits every day.

What is something about yourself that we might not know? I love to sing. And I’m a football junkie.

What advice would you give someone just getting started with CrossFit? Show up and put in the work. You will see results. Everything can be scaled, and anyone can do it!
